Dressed in Black: The Journey
an exhibition by the
National Congress of Black Women Foundation
On view February 2020
In honour of Black History Month, we are hosting an exhibition by the National Congress of Black Women Foundation.
Dressed in Black: The Journey celebrates the spirit of the Blacks who travelled from Africa to America and then finally to Canada. The photos and narration in the exhibition explore the struggles, the courage and the challenges of being Dressed in Black, the skin and the clothing that was worn.
Clothing has always been a notable part of identity. Dressed in Black: The Journey invites viewers to gain an understanding of the identity of the Blacks who were invited to make a home in British Columbia in the 1800s. These newcomers travelled by boat and made lasting contributions to the establishment of BC.
